94 GS firing order

Post by Mi|<E »

This doesn't seem to be like any order ive come across on the site/manuals. The damn thing
has spark fuel and air and just wont start.

Here is a pic when it was still running:

Image

you can see the order is odd on the disty

any suggestions welcome, im getting rather annoyed at this thing

Your cap should read left to right 4,5,3 on the top and 6,1,2 on the bottom but generally speaking you just wire it up with the correct number on the disty going to the correct cylinder. Did you check that your timing belt didn't skip a few teeth? Crank it over with someone holding a timing light on the crank. Make sure TEN and Gnd is jumped in the diags box of course.

Ive hooked it up according to the cap but I think the problem may be that
I flooded it, took out two of the plugs and they were soaked in gas...

whoops.

That cap looks bogus?? Do you have the original? Bottom left should be 6 then 1,2.

The firing order is 1-2-3-4-5-6.

Look at the cap and see how the traces work inside, on most caps they cross eachother to make the order on the cap that Dan said. Some caps are different than others. Believe the cap.

That looks like a 94 cap though, do you have a 94 disty?

Also possibly take the whole unit out and inspect the inner workings very easy job did mine in 15 minutes knowing what tools i needed

3/8s ratchet 6 inch extention
12 mm or 14 mm bolts
before removal make sure to mark it so u know how to reinstall without messing timing up

only 2 bolts holding unit in place remove all wires and leads and remove unit

inspect the rotor and remove pieces inside one by one set aside in order.. Install is opposite

side note when removing cap use a 8mm socket 9/10 times ive rounded the screwdriver head.

Also when ur in there look for rust or brown metal indecation moisture has made its way to the coil then only thing stoping the car from starting

Re: 94 GS firing order

The whole unit is old with a new cap and rotor. I disassembled it and it was indeed
really rusty inside, did the best I could to clean it up and have 1.2 ohms on the 3
pin A to B (0.49-0.73 in service manual specs) and 19.3k ohms on the primary
(20-31k ohms spec) so those seem to be okay. As per the firing order again im
still not having any luck with it. I thought the cylinder fire order on V6's were
1-2-3-5-4-6 which is why they run smoother than a 4 banger. The 1-2-3-4-5-6
firing order doesn't match with the 1-2-3-5-4-6 in the 95 service manual haha....

this is just one big wtf to me.

Should I do the HEI mod then? Does this sound like that may be a good step to
take from here?

So the cap firing order was absolutely correct as per what Ryan said.

I put in a reman distributor and it fired right up and runs great. Just
need to time the thing and set the idle as its a bit high.
