Today i started repairing my dented door. the dent is right where the door meets the front finder. I would say the dent is about a inch inward. So a inch thick of bondo would be required to fix it.

Would you do it? would it be worth it? or would you just replace the door? I think fixing it would be best in my option mainly because parts are becoming harder to find each day someone "replaces" a part.

Try bashing it out first.

I did haha , it is as far out as I was able to get it. the dent is about 3 inches long, so from the edge, inwards. Which is right over the welds and where the front and back metal sit about 1 centimeter apart. I have tried getting inside the door and popping it out but that was a fail.

you should only bondo about 1/8 inch thick maximum. Also, you should not bondo edges if at all possible. break those guidlines and you are much more likely that at some point the bondo is going to come loose and look like total crap. That said, a inexpensive set of body working tools, some reading on the net to learn a tad about how to use them and some patients in acutally using them and I bet you can get that inch alot closer to perfect before setting on it with bondo.

Ok so here is the bondo job. This was the best I could get it out but you can see how thick it is

that's definitely too much. You should get a donor door or re-skin it (which is quite a bit of work and novice wouldn't be able to do)

Haha Yea this is my first car and everything dealing with cars is still pretty new to me. I'm assuming by re-skinning it you mean cutting that section out and welding a peace of metal over it.

As for a donor car, I would love to get one. I would probably end up using mine as the donor though. Its got a long road ahead of it. Mx-3s are kinda rare in my area though, I have only seen 2 in my life, mine and one in the state below me.

Reskinning is actually taking skin off and putting on new skin. If you look at your door, it's made of 2 components. One is door shell where all the things including door panel mount onto, the 2nd part of door is door skin.

If he's on a super tight budget, that bondo should hold up long enough for him to source another door... and its a good learning experience if it cracks, falls off, and damages three cars behind him on the interstate.

note to self "avoid the interstate". lol Yea i don't have the tools or experience to re-skin the door. So I guess ill wait till a donor comes my way.

I had a dent in the rear wing.It was like someone hit it with martins shoe.
I bondo on it and paint it..Two years have passed and nothing ever happened in the paint over the bondo.
Just only the all work is horrible!

Bondo is fine as long as you apply it in 1/8th inch layers sanding with a rough grit in between. Next time try taking the door off the car to repair the dent.

yea but you still should minimise it as much as Possible because well... crank your sub two high onetime and boom no more bondo!
