RIP little RS.

SuperK's '93 Mazda MX-3 ZE
- Bane -

My first love has perished. While it would be charming to say that this is my second love, I cannot.

I have named her Bane because she is the bane of my existence. I purchased her in September of 2007 from previous member "Gro Harlem" and she has made sure every drive, every stop, is... miserable.

Day 1 - 09/30/2007

Bane's Chronology:

In rough order of events, here's what's happened to Bane during the course of my ownership:

First:

The Timing Disaster
In my story, there involves a car, a cow pasture, another cow pasture, a chicken coop, rain, and a cold, lonely night.

Then:
A new issue began:
ZE Geyser

During:
This time, another issue was still unsolved:
Mystery Hesitation

Then:
After fixing the issue with a new VAF, my control arm snaps in half:
Image

During:
My suspension failure, I end up hitting a curb and destorying one of my rims. The tow truck takes care of the front bumper:

After:
I replace the control arms, the car still shifts uncontrollably. several more shops, hubs/bearings/ball joints/tie rod ends later, still there. I am driving it to a shop one day, take a right hand turn and "kerlunk, kshhhhhh..." My car driver's side feels like it collapsed and is coming to a very quick stop. When I get out... the ball joint jumped off the spindle. Another tow home and it turns out the balljoint/bolt spindle was worn through and through, and the ball joint just slid out. Tow truck took out a front mudguard and some green paint, so now some red is showing.

Now:
The car was driving beautifully... Until the clutch burned out. So now again it's parked waiting for a clutch replacement.

I'll clean these threads up but for now I'm information dumping just so I can start collecting some fun info.

Sufferin Jesus, I almost put a rope around my neck reading all that. :crying: Man, trouble would be an understatement. I read through almost all of those posts just for review. I still miss Shameen, he was a good MX'er but I guess he never got his car fixed cuz he hasn't been on here since the accident. I had a dead spot at 1600rpm on my VAF but this spring it seems to of fixed itself. I give you AAA for perseverance. :2thumbsup:

Shameem sold his mx. He wanted me to buy it, but at the time, I didn't have any money.

And K of Super, don't give up on it yet. Sooner or later it'll pay off and be an amazingly good car for you.

It is hella fun to drive, I can attest to that, it just needs some love and more importantly a few well placed dollars ;)

I'm going to create a "to do" list and check off what I've completed with the dates.

Swap:
front end with EDM front - 05/05/11
Power Window motors
Sunroof Motor
RS Front Spindles
RS Dash
Headliner
USDM Full-Length Sides
Front Brembo Slotted Rotors
Front Calipers

Replace:
Balljoints/Tie Rods
CV Axles
Motor Mounts
Clutch

This list will continue expanding, but this should keep me busy for the rest of the summer.

You're going to swap out the MS bumper?

The MS bumper was poorly attached. Or so I thought, becuase it was flimsy, but I was under the impression it was at least mounted correctly. When I started to remove the bumper, i realized that it was held on by... Two twistie ties. That's All. So I guess Gro never reallly finished mounting it. He painted the bumper and whenever the bumper would flex, the paint would crack, so he probably didn't want to damage his paint job and just kinda tacked it on.

Mr. Super...if that is your real name....

How are the rear quarters on the slightly crushed car? If I sent you a template, would you be able, willing to do some cutting?

Just a thought.

Some exciting things happening:

Image

Clutchmasters Clutch/flywheel
RS spindle Conversion (Larger Balljoints)
Derusting parts / area
New Motor Mounts
New Axles

Currently the transmission is out, so the job is halfway completed once I get the cash to purchase the equipment. As I work on different areas of the car, I"m doing a thorough derustifying/cleaning job. I have a large amount of "caliper paint" in black I'll be applying to different parts that are known to rust ugly, like spindles and such. Since I don't require this car to be on the road I'm taking it part by part, slowly and being very thorough.

next projects planned:
mirror polished intake
Engine pull/rebuild

Some

Pretty much seems like your having to tame a wild beast here. I don't think the car much liked you as it's new owner, but your showing it who's boss :D
