determining what year a KLZE 2.5L j-spec is.

ok so tried searching the forums for this info but no luck.
so if anyone has a link or something for me thats great.

ok so question. how can you tell what year your j-spec KLZE is?
i ordered a new water pump kit for my engine and luckly the shop on ebay gave a notice that there was a difference between a 92-94 KLZE and a 95-97. the diameter on the water pump hub is smaller or larger depending on the age group. so i know mine fits into the 95-97 group. but when i went to get some new plugs and took a look at the book it gave different numbers for 95-96 and 97. so any help to narrow this down would be greatly appreciated.

thank you.

The water pump thing we all just had to purchase a pump based on the size of the pilot on the pump we were replacing. The only difference in plugs I would think would be the heat range.

What are the numbers of plugs that you are being given?

This is some stuff I heared before.
ZE plugs = stock 2.0L FS engine (probe).
[part: BKR6E-11, stock: 2756]. recommended gap is .039 to .043

Ya, do NOT use DE spark plugs, they'll hit your pistons.

Your options are 32 or 16mm pilot for the W/P. If you just look at your old one, you can tell pretty easy.

DE plugs wont hit your pistons, but will come damn close. My brother used to have ZFR's in his ZE probe and never had a issue, but we swapped em after we found out the old owner put those in instead of the BKR's

From an early ZE to a later one though the pistons didn't change as far as I know so I think the only difference would be the heat of the plug.

I am running BKR6E-11. BKR5E-11 is the same plug but cooler...meaning not as well insulated so that more heat can leave the tip of the plug. The 6E is hot enough to keep the tip warm at idle so it won't foul but not so hot that it burns up at high RPM. The 5E can be a problem at idle...or at least that's the advice I asked this question 2 years ago.

I can chip in yet again.

I bought some 5e's a few years back for my ZE and put them in, then I read up about the "proper" plug being a 6e. I bought the 6's and put them in and noticed no change in idle, power or fuel economy. I personally think that 6 is abit cold for this type of NA motor but I dont know a ton about spark plugs. Only that there was no difference, at least from my viewpoint between the two heatranges on the ZE

Weird, I remember it being a big No-No to put DE plugs in a ZE for that reason, guess it's been many years since.

Yea I remember there was a big scare a few years ago on PT about this, but I have still yet to read about any motor damage cuz of the plugs. But I imagine they come VERY close to the piston
