Has anyone tryed to change it up alittle?

I was wondering if anyone has tried to swap anything other then the KL series motors into the mx3. I'm sure new engine mounts will have to be made along with wiring but I am talking motors such as 1JZ GTE , 13B Cosmo , 20B 3 Cosmo.

Pretty sure that the 1.9 Escort engine has been put in (heaven knows why)

Ah alright the 13B seams like a fun project , Why is it not "praised" because of the labor or performance?

The person that did it, did a hack job at it. The motor was beautiful, but the way the guy did the trans tunnel and the body of the car...it was crap. I think it had S2000 headlights molded in, and actual Supra tail lights too. The car could have been so much better.

Ah so nice when done right lol , I wouldn't change the outside look of the car though. I would just change cars :P Dose anyone have anymore info on this? Such as how the motor mount was made and welded, wiring issues, specs of the trans tunnel.

No one really knows anything about it. I can't even find anything online about it. The only pictures and info of the car were on the old ebay ads, and those are long gone. Someone might've saved the pictures of it. I sure as hell didn't. I think it had a Ford 9in in the rear. Maybe an 8.8in, was definitely solid axle though

All aftermarket gauges. Gutted interior. Sprayed the whole interior/dash red. 5-lug conversion. That's all I know about it.

Alright thanks a lot everyone. as for the gauges I was thinking of using the RX-7 cluster , with a little reshaping it should fit in place of ours. I'm going to keep looking into this though. =]

Apparently there was 12a FWD kits for 323/Progetes overseas, but the big issue with that is the lack of weight over the drive wheels, ironicly enough.

The Toyota and the Mazda FE3T have been done (once each), but that's pretty much it for non-conventional swaps.

Non-conventional FWD swaps are complicated, require fabrication and custom parts. If you can't do them yourself, it makes it really, really expensive.

A RWD conversion is even more complex, requires a lot more hacking and custom work and reinforcements to the chassis.

Dream all you want, I would put a solid bet that you would never complete such a project. Have to be pestimistic, but that's the truth. Only 1 3sgte swap, 1 FE3T swap, one ugly 13b RWD conversion and 1 completed AWD BPT Mx-3 swap have all been done, out of the countless Mx-3 owners out there, and the countless people that have come here dreaming and saying they'll be doing some of these crazy swaps, and all have come to very abrupt dead ends; usually even before getting started. The AWD BPT is the easiest, using mostly factory parts, but still requires some custom work, and only one person (Josh) has gotten it running and on the road for a few years now. A few others have started, but one just farily recently abandoned it.

Good luck, but your more like underestimating what needs to be done and just dreaming too big. It would be neat to see some neat and custom (and clean) stuff out there, but only a proud few have put their money, blood, sweat and tears to where their mouth is...

3800 Series II V6 Supercharged.

I'll be swapping one of those in my Sunfire as well.
...Whenever I have space and find a CHEAP wrecked '98+ GTP. (no theft-lock headache to deal with like in the Olds or Buick.)

Wouldn't it be feasible to add the necessary structural stability for the chassis via the drivetrain itself? Similar to how the Miata design, if I'm not mistaken.

Ya, they're pretty neat. I'll give them that and should be pretty damned quick.

Oh, I don't remember the SR20 swap.

Mostly, ya, the rear of the car isn't designed to handle driven wheels and the torque that's coming all the way from the front. Ya, the BP AWD system drives the rear wheels, but it's still only a fraction of the system which is still FWD biased and not as robust and physically heavy. Also you need to modify the rear suspension system since the geometry will be different. You've also got to cut the body to fit a RWD trans and refab that. You're literally going to have to build a RWD car under an Mx3

Oh, is that all? :welder:

It'll happen, somebody has to do it(properly) eventually.
