Cjthor and I are building an "ArtCar" for Burning Man. I had my 33ft Winnebago chopped down to the frame, and we're building a 2 level mobile circus.

Here it is stripped to the frame rails, and having the supports welded on:


Here's the bottom level being made:





In this picture, you can see the propane cannon behind his butt.

Here's a bad sketch of what it will look like. It looks small because of the angle. It will have a 27'x8.5' performance/ dance floor on the botom, including 2 go-go boxes over the wheelwells, and a performance upper deck with dance pole, and aerial acrobatics riggings on each side. It will have metal wings on each side to climb on.



It will be a silver Phoenix. It looks like a Chicken, because I didn't take time to draw it well

It will have a 200db sound system, visual projection, lasers, LEDs, and Flame-throwers.

Glad to see you're still on mx-3.com. Last thing I heard is that your mx-3 got messed up. Most people just adandon this place after their mx3 is wrecked or sold.

Suspend a disco ball from above and aim a couple lights up at it. Where is the DJ suppose to set up to spin the phat beats and do that scratch stuff? How about a dry ice machine cuz you needs the dry ice in the desert to complete the effect. Do you have a generator that's muffelled good to provide the electron juice for all the stuff?

why do you have a chicken on the top if it?.........just joking, looks like a fun project. good luck with it and keep uspdating it.

I did abandon this beloved forum, because it just reminded me of how much I want to drive my broken MX-3s, but I'm kinda back.
Dan, the disco ball will be atop the dancing pole. It will also be a beacon to help us find it, when we walk away. Yes, it's crazy enough out there to lose a 33ft firebreathing circus vehicle! The DJ will be in the cab with the controls for the lighting, and flame effects. We are going to have fog machines! We're also looking into buying an airplane de-icing setup (2000 gallon tank, pump, and sprayer), so we can make rain. Water = nudity.
We're planning to run everything off of 2 (or more) alternators on the 454 engine, and a serious bank of batteries (10 industrial big rig style bad boys).

Who here knows how to set up a 200db sound system off alternators? I'm thinking 4 12", or 15", mids, and highs. We're going with super bright LEDs for the lighting.

200dB is impossible. Jesse, you're awesome, but you can't defy physics. You'll need to score speakers from a real DJ from a club or something, as those are designed to be loud into a large airspace. Rock concerts with walls of speakers only reach 115ish dB, and dB is a logarithmic scale (exponential) so you need 10x as much sound to move up 1 dB.

Look at this:



Any car audio stuff will leave you disappointed as they're designed to work inside a car, a closed chamber.

You'll want speakers from:
A club
Outdoor speakers for weddings outside and stuff
Portable speakers for bands on the go
tower speakers from old stereo systems (anything that was attatched to a record player will have huge bass, because records didn't carry it well, so they compensated with the speaker output)
Regular outdoor speakers designed for stores and stuff

And then you'll need a whack load of cheap amplifiers.

Weren't you using that motorhome to sleep inat Burning Man?

Ryan, always ruining my plans with physics... and I appreciate it. I'm fishing for this kind of info. I'll settle for "really loud". It just has to be good enough for people to dance to within about a 25 foot radius.
Yes, Nd4SpdSe, it was my home, but it barely survived 4 years of abuse, and a full sized cow at about 55mph, but just barely. I'm going to get a trailor to live in.
This vehicle will also be the world's first successful single vehicle mobile circus, which will put on shows in the portland area.
I am working on an aerial acrobatic routine on chains that are partially on fire. It's coming along great, but doesn't feel very good.

Not sure what the total weight would be of your platform since you're working with steel, but would you be able to tow a trailer behind it? Could be neat to use the trailer as an additional platform, or as the chickens butt, lol....

Dispite the fact that science believes that a 200db blast is enough to kill you by the sound waves vibrations liquifying your organs...

And if all else fails, it can double as a mobile strip bar...
