Faster than an STi 0-60 and only a tick off in the ¼ mile. Tranny is alot better than the old WRXs, handles good, and looks pretty good (especially when you throw on the twin dual Greddy exhaust). Only thing I dont like is the clear taillights, I'd swap those out for STi tails ASAP.

I think I may be interested in getting one too. I've done a quick search and have found wrx's to generally be around 7000 dollars cheaper in the states. May be the way to go.

how hard is it to buy a car in the US and bring it to canada?

not, if you do the research and get 100% of your paper work sorted out before you hit the border on the way up. Make all your inspection appointments ahead of time, too.

Ok, any product built in Canada, USA or Mexico can be brought across the boarder duty free. If it's not in one of those three countries be prepared to pay a hefty duty tax. The 2009 Legacy is built in Indiana but I believe all Impreza's are made in Gunma, Japan. Anyway if you check the VIN if it starts with J, your car was built in Japan. If it starts with 1 or 4, it was built in the US.

Anyway John check this site out. http://www.cars101.com/canada.html

I think that link is worth a Free Pizza don't you John. :D

According to that website anyways.. its 6% for duties.. you have to pay 5% sales tax.. in alberta anyways.
The actual import fee is around 350??

What are sales taxes in the states like? 7%?
So you car is priced at 20,000 you pay 7% = 1400
Duties 6% = 1200
I would be getting a car from Montana so that's about 8-10hour drive 200-350 in fuel
Import fee of 400
Inspection/make meet canada specs 100 bucks

flat fee of 100 bucks for A/C

NOTE: I removed the gst you pay importing as you would pay for that buying the car in Canada anyways.
Total of $3550 roughly to import the vehicle.
So from my quick search it's about 7000 saved from buying a car in the states. Could be more depending on what you want.
So you will save $3450 for a days worth of driving. Not to mention you can usually find American vehicles with better options like GPS
