I want to get rid of the loud ticking noise basically and I just need a direction of what has to be done.

I never thought the ticking of the 1.8 V6 was a problem until I read online on canadian car reviews that says it is a problem

Is the friction gear the split gear on the end of the camshaft??

Will replacing this with something else make the noise go away and be more reliable??

I just want to fix the noise asap. I'll do it myself in a day at my dads house.
