which style turbo kit?
which style turbo kit?
i wanna throw together a turbo on my k8 then swap to a klde when the k8 pops, i'm just cruising ebay looking for the pipe kit se7en used when i looked i found a few variations which make me wonder what i should get i know the turbos arent the greatest but i'm only looking around 7 psi max until i upgrade to 2.5 liters.

http://cgi.ebay.ca/KLZE-2-5-V6-PROBE-MX ... 27b77e003d
the second one seems like its big time overkill.
the first kit has a great price point and i wouldnt mind piecing a kit together.

Re: which style turbo kit?
Sounds like your doing things backwards. Swap motors first.
Took the bp+t out of the mx and swapped it into a 95 escort wagon. ![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

Re: which style turbo kit?
You won't get a chance to blow it up. The clutch will fry long before that.

If you want to destroy your motor so bad, drain the oil and coolant then set a brick on the gas pedal till it pops. Shouldnt take long.

HONESTLY I JUST WANT INPUT ON THE HOT PIPES SETUP(I WORK FOR MAZDA SO ALMOST IF NOT FREE SHOP TIME) I CAN BLOW THE K8 AND THEN SWAP TO THE DE AND THROW A NEW CLUTCH IN ONCE I GET ONE DOESNT REALLY BOTHER ME TO DO THE JOB TWICE IT JUST GIVES ME SOMETHING TO DO.

Re: which style turbo kit?
Both of those kits come with the same hot pipes, just one comes with a bunch of random universal parts, most of which you will not use and will still have to buy the correct stuff for the car.

Re: which style turbo kit?
i'm gonna pick up just the hotpipes/turbo kit, price point allows me alot of room to invest in better quality items(i.e wastegate, bov, ems, etc.)

Re: which style turbo kit?
Understand that the kits you're looking at are made for a Ford Probe. They will bolt up to the engine fine, but the chassis is different. There will be some significant customization to make it fit the MX-3.

Re: which style turbo kit?
I wouldn't say significant. When I first installed mine I was able to keep my AC and everything. All I had to do was bang on the down pipe a little, trim the inspection plate on the transmission and turn the wastegate pipe about 90 degrees to clear the AC accumulator. If I had already got rid of the AC it would of been just banging on the downpipe and trimming the inspection plate real quick.wytbishop wrote:Understand that the kits you're looking at are made for a Ford Probe. The modded crossmember is different on an mx3 from a probe, but all the modded cross members are custom made anyways.

Andy did you have to get the T3 flange higher about 1" for the turbo compressor inlet to clear the frame?hppwdn wrote:I wouldn't say significant. Re: which style turbo kit?
No, I have a 3" inlet. There's no need for a 4" inlet like all the new ported S covers have, a regular E cover is fine.johnmx3ze wrote:Andy did you have to get the T3 flange higher about 1" for the turbo compressor inlet to clear the frame?hppwdn wrote:I wouldn't say significant. Re: which style turbo kit?
i'm using the k8 as a base motor just to build on(line up piping figure out crossmemeber modification) i'll be picking up a klde in the coming month, but not looking to install until end of summer unless i absolutely have to.(i'm a single father and diapers arent cheap)
i was able to get my hands on an aem fic so that will be my first serious mod with the mx-3, then i'm slowly gonna build up from there, i work long hours and the rest my normal days are spent with my son, i work on the car usually during the middle of the night a couple days a week. and due to noise i'm limited to hand tools. this isnt my first modded car(had a boosted pro5 built from the ground up).
This project is being built into a (hopefully) reliable low boost drivers car until i can get my hands on a suitable winter beater. honestly the drivetrain is my last piece i just wanna make sure i have all my ducks in a row. i'm a parts hoarder by nature so i'm just collecting until the time is right!
