Turn Signal and wiper control assembly help!

I bought a wiper/turn signal module from a member here, and it came from an RS. The module will be replacing my damaged GS one, but there are a few slight differences between the two. I believe they are all related to cruise control and the horn.

The top one is from my GS, the bottom the RS.

Image

The plunger type button on the RS module is for the horn I assume? Can I remove this and swap over the controls from the GS module?

Here is the harness for the RS module:

Seeing as they are identical, with the exception of the 1 wire on the RS module being replaced by the 2 on the GS module(Cruise control + horn) vs just horn on the RS, can I just swap out the wires? Does the GS module not need the little plunger to work the horn? My horn hasn't worked consistently since I bought the car, so I really don't know.

:help: This isn't something I would like to mess up, I rather like having cruise control. Fixing my horn would be a bonus, as It's been honked maybe 10 times since I bought the car.

If you just pull on that white part it should come off and you can switch them. If you undo that pin (which is the horn pin) you can swap over whatever you need from the cruise currently... since you have both, you have all the parts, just swap it over.

Everything was put together part by part in a factory, so it can come apart part by part.

Alright, so I do not need the plunger for my horn to work? I wasn't sure, because mine hasn't worked since I got the car.

Depends on what style of horn you have... cruise or not? airbags or not?

Ryan, I stated that I have CC in both of my original posts  It's a '92, so no airbags. I assumed that people would assume that!

The plunger is out of the question, I just noticed something else. Pics will be up in 2-3 minutes.

I was kinda being rhetorical, I could have used a few more ellipses I suppose.

Its just like a slightly more complicated version of lego man, you'll get it.

This is the assembly from my GS again, with the Ring(Horn + Cruise Control attach to this):

This is the same assembly, with the ring off to the side:

I can only assume that this piece is meant to touch the ring, and maintain an electrical circuit, I assume it's for the ground:

This is the back of the ring, my thumb is right below the point that contacts with that metal plate in the above picture:

I'm thinking of sticking a copper shim between the 2 to close the gap a bit, I have some left over from fixing my laptop.

What do you think guys?

I was shocked at the idea of you not fully reading a post before replying :P

I think I already have, I am just waiting for confirmation now. Fingers crossed!

Sorry to quote your pictures.

Take off the ring and the white plastic behind it, and make it fit on your new assembly. Job done.

The horn pin comes off, that much I remember. That metal piece is nothing. The wires coming off of the ring are the 2 wires for cruise and the horn. You'll need to connect your horn from the wheel into the 3 pin connector on the wheel.

The purpose of that ring is to maintain contact while the wheel spins and not need a gay a-- clock spring or twist wires. It shouldn't ground to anything, it carries the horn/cruise signals.

I swapped it over, the thing is my horn has worked so inconsistently, it's literally been honked maybe 10 times since I have had the car. I just cleaned up the ring's contacts and reapplied the dry lube, it moves smoothly and shouldn't give me problems. I'm just hoping I have a horn again after this is done, thanks Ryan.

I'll keep you guys posted, probably just a finished product update after.

The horn works simply by completing a circuit. If you look at the back of the steering wheel you'll see how it works. the pin you're routing carries 12V, and when you hit the horn it completes the circuit through the wheel-steering column

Ryan,

I understand how pushing the button completes the circuit, but mine doesn't. I checked the horn control and even stretched the spring to allow slightly more pressure on the cover. It didn't solve anything, it still works about 1/100 times I hit it.

could be your horn itself. It sits in a rough location, corrosion wise, especially if it doesn't see a lot of use, to vibrate the rust off.

You could check to make sure the horn itself is gettin 12V when you hit the horn. Its below the passenger headlight.
