Oil indicator turns on while driving ? :(

Hi guyz,
I got a 93 Mx-3 (Eunos 30x) 1.8 Manual, and I am having a problem.

The oil indicator turns on after driving for about 20 mins. The car got plenty of oil up to the full mark when resting. when the light comes up it does make a slight difference to the HP of the car. thats the only thing I could notice that changes with the indicator. If I stop the car until it cools down and drive again it will again go for about 20 mins or so and the light will come up again.

I had a similar problem before but it was due to a crack on the main air intake hose. At that time the RPM droped right down when the indicator came up because of the loss of preasure. However, I believe its not the air intake this time coz I cheked all the hoses that I can see from top and I also didn't notice any RPM drop.

can you guyz think of any other reason ( than low oil) that makes the oil indicator to turn on ?? and is it going to blow the engine if I drive while its on ?

Thanks guyz apriciate your replies .. Thanks

the reason why the oil light comes on is because of low or no oil pressure and not because of oil level (although lack of oil will cause no oil pressure)
so your oil pump is going or something

Could also be the oil pressure sensor too.

Yes replace the oil pressure sender first. Takes about 5 mins. If the problem persists you have a bad pump.

most likely sensor. I had 2 that went out on my car already with only ~107K miles on the car.

Edit, never mind, OPS is normally open...which makes sense...

Yes replace that sensor and if the car eventually dies then you are fully justified in getting yourself a KLDE/KLZE as a replacement :P

Thanks for all your replies guyz. ..
I am thinking of looking in to oil preassure sensor before replacing the pump or may be the motor with KLZE as RX8SE3P suggested :D

So at the moment I am tring to locate this sensor and then I l lget back to you guyz thanks again for your help.

It's a single wire sensor that screws into the oil filter cooler on the front of the block. The wire comes off the harness at the alternator...you can't miss it.

Thank you I believe I ll be able to locate the sensor thanks to all the guyz. I will be replacing it hopefully on this wk end. :)

However, I would like to ask another question

Oil light comming up after 15/20 mins, Can it be a result of oil being not thick enough or becoming less thick than it should be ??

It would only be caused by running out of oil or a failing pump. The viscosity will always change normally as long as the motor gets hot, like it always does.
