need a trans

i need a trans for my 93 mx-3. i need the 5 speed man. any suggestions on which kinda trans will give me better fuel mileage? and where can i find one that works and is dirt cheap? please help me:) thnx

Is that a longer geared trans? That being the case, longer gears will more likely cause the fuel economy to go down, especially on a little 88hp 4cyl, the lesser torque multiplication will increasing the load on the motor. The gearing is set to have the engine be at it's more efficient at highway speeds (55mpg then), engine RPM's are a very small factory in this equation.

On that note, if you're really struggling to increase fuel economy on a 4cyl Mx-3 that's suppose to get over 40mpg, there's something wrong....

It is the same transmission with a 3.619 FD.

lower RPM cruising gear.
