Sisko's Midnight Purple 1992 MX-3

Hey everyone. I'm starting to get down to work on my MX-3, so I thought I would start this worklog, and update it as I progress.

I'll be honest; I don't know much about cars, so this car is going to be the car I learn things on along the way, experiment, etc. Learning a lot so far just from these forums.

I've technically had this car as my own since June, however, the engine swap kept getting delayed. The previous engine was blown, so I finally got a V6 DOHC 24 Valve engine put in at the beginning of this month, so it is now 100% drivable. I didn't get anything powerful put in because I just won't be doing anything with this car that requires that.

Enough of the boring stuff. Here's what I've done, what needs to be done, what I'd like to do, and so on.

First off I had to replace the passenger side window at the beginning of the month because someone decided to smash it in to loot my car (they got away with nothing). It got smashed outside the autobody shop, and they had a spare window around, so they replaced it for me. Unfortunately, in breaking the window, they also broke the rain guard so now I need a new one.

Here's what it looks like now:

Like I said, I don't know much about mechanics as of yet, so the work being done right now is pretty basic stuff, and appearance related things.

The headlights were suuuper yellow and hazy, so I used some good ol' toothpaste and it worked like a charm. The pictures don't show you just how dirty the headlights were before the toothpaste.

Here are some general pictures of the car:

The car has got some yellow foglights:

I took the foglights off to change the bulbs and clean them up - you wouldn't believe how dirty they were inside. It was just coated in rusty goop inside. Cleaned em well and put them back on.

I've got some future plans as far as appearance goes:
-Rims, of course, since no rims + body kit = weird look
-Fixing all the rust, followed by painting it (probably white)
-I also plan on buying a parts car to just pick parts from (of course, what else)

That's about it for now. I'll update this thread as I progress. I look forward to any suggestions and help you guys have to offer!

Not so much. Very busy with University.

All I've really done is build a wooden floor for the trunk.

:P I want to know the exact "purple" haha. It kind of reminds me of the blackcherry mica on the speed6.

I just needed something basic to cover the spare tire, etc in the trunk, so I made the floor from ply wood and cut it to fit around the curves. The "carpeting" covers it anyways, so it works out well.

I'm not too sure what the exact purple is, but if you search "Chameleon Purple," it does look very similar to that.

haha yah, just teasing, savin!! ;)
ah, right... I was imagining like polished floorboards in your trunk hahahahaha... ok, so its kinda just to replace the stock one, then?
Oh, and if its a colour that the car was built in (i.e. the stock one), it should say it on the vehicle ID plates (or whatever you call them), which are usually inside one of the doors...

I think I discovered the color... its suuuuuper similar to "Midnight Purple," which is often a Skyline color.

I am looking for some opinions on rims. Trying to decide, mainly between black & white.

Here are what I've come down to:

Rota Grid (White):

or

Focal F05 (Black)

I'm leaning more towards white, because looking at pictures of cars that are similar to mine (the color), white looks awesome. I just can't find anywhere to buy these white Rota Grids from...

Check this Skyline out - same color as my car with white rims:

For sure. I'll be sure to grab some pictures come spring, once all the snow has gone and I'll hopefully have rims on it.

Good call on the wooden trunk floor. I need to remove the portions of mine that I finished, I'm going to go with a different design...
