Over Rev 7600RPMs

Hey it's been a while since I've been on here but had an issue on the high way tonight and over reved my KLZE to 7600rpms and the needle stoped and the engine sounded like it reved higher then the needle said, will this hurt my engine? Did it by accident by down shifting to 4th but went to 2nd on the highway at 110-115kph. I'm nervous that I might have lessend the life of the engine. After I got home the engine was really hot and the oil was a bit dirty and clear but no shavings or grit. I used top grade oil last oil change so maybe this helped.

were you trying to pull 'fast and furious" on someone or you have 'heavy foot' like Paul Walker does?

I would probably say that it's going to be ok. I remember doing this a couple times and pretty sure I revved well past 8k for a couple of seconds... I was worried because I had the rev limiter removed from the ECU...

Do you have the rev limiter still installed?

Regardless I think the key is that you don't do it all the time... I suppose if you revved high enough you could blow something but I belive it's doing it all the time will hurt the engine... and more specifically the valvetrain.

Trying to pass a mini van, funny I know. But first time I every did that. My last engine K8 spun a main bearing do you think this could happen on KL? or does this engine have a better bottom end than the K8?

The top end is what your worried about, i have over revved a few times, close to 8K or beyond on my black MX... Gotta worry about dropping valves.. If your car is running fine tho dont worry.

They all have the same bottom end. KLs seem to have an issue with the #6 bearing. You won't spin your bearing just by overreving it once, but, anyways, you're not helping your engine either. Besides the oiling problem, you're overstressing your moving parts and bearings/caps, and, as Solo said, you're hurting your top end. Either way, as Mooneggs said, one isolated incident shouldn't have much of an effect, AS LONG AS YOU KEEP IT ONE ISOLATED INCIDENT... :confused2:
I'd recommend you not to go over 7k regularly on a stock KL. Your engine will appreciate it.

yeah, that will be my last time I ever do that! It is going away for the winter soon so I will do a full engine service.

Good oil would definitely have helped a bit. If you had turd oil that had been in there for 10,000kms and you did that, you might have lessened the engine life. Either way, drive normally and I'm sure you'll probably end up selling the car before any engine issues ever arise.

Well thanks for the info, and i'm going to drive it very normal as I always do but keep a watchfull eye on the engine.
