BP Swap - A couple cel codes and now a high pitch wining noi

Hey everyone,

About a month ago I swapped a BP from a 93 protege into my 95. I kept my existing harness and it is running pretty good. However I still have a couple of cel codes and yesterday I noticed a very high pitch squeal coming from around my intake manifold. The squeal is only there when it is around 1500 rpm. Any suggestions as to what this could be?

Now for my cel codes. It is throwing the following:

12 - Throttle Position Sensor
15 - Heated oxygen sensor
16 - EGR valve position sensor
25 - PRC solenoid valve
28 - EGR solenoid valve (vacuum)
29 - EGR solenoid valve (vent)

Now I know I need a new oxygen sensor so 15 is taken care of. If I am thinking correctly, the PRC & EGR solenoid are right next to eachother over on the crank side correct? If so, I may have these plugged in wrong. Can anyone provide me with a picture or description of which hoses go where? Also, I still have yet to figure out what VICS is. Finally, the TPS. Would this code just mean that this is bad?

Can anyone provide any insight on this? I am still having the codes. I have fixed the high pitch squeal (just a bad manifold gasket). I am only getting around 20mpg with my BP swap right now and I'm sure these codes have something to do with that.

Well, look at the things the codes suggest...

Is your TPS connected even? Try resetting it as per the FAQ/manual.

Is your o2 connected? Test it per the manual.

Did you do the vacuum right? connect the solenoids right? EGR, that is.

You probably messed up the PRC vac too, or didn't plug it in.

okay so I also when doing this swap threw a code 25- PRC and 41- VICS

41 and 25 are quite simple:

http://www.clubprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20514" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

looking @ the pin-outs for the ECU, You need to make sure that there is continuity from pin 2T (this is for code 25) to one of the wires on the PRC. The other wire should get continuty at the main relay (near the ECU in the dash, or you can just probe the white/red wire on the fuel injectors as that wire goes to the same spot)

Also, make sure that the PRC goes like this:

line from intake manifold -> PRC -> fuel pressure regulator on the end of the fuel rail

for the VICS:

On that same diagram, Pin 2S (it says overboost buzzer since it's the GTX, but on the non-turbo ECU it's not) is the wire for the VICS. To get the VICS working, you have to add this wire in yourself. So what you do is you route a wire from that pin to the VICS plug (VICS being the solenoid that connects to a "control lever/arm" on the intake manifold. It's right next to the PRC. The other wire goes to the same spot as the PRC.. the white/red wire going to the main rleay.

I'm not sure about the EGR solenoids or the TPS. Mine was plug-and-play and I had no issues with them =/

Alright, I got all of the codes taken care of except for code 16. I just went out and checked it and the egr doesn't do anything when I rev the engine. It does move if I push it or hook a vacuum line up to it which makes me suspect I have it plugged in wrong. Can anyone direct me to a diagram of where the hoses go from the solenoid? I've been searching but am not having any luck.

EGR only operates when cruising in gear, and the car is hot.

Figured out the correct hosing connections and the EGR seems to working correctly now, however the light is still on. If I disconnect the negative terminal for 10 seconds and depress the brake 5 times, the code is still there the instant I turn the key on. Does this indicate there is another problem or is it just not clearing the code for some reason?

Try holding the brake for 30 secconds.

If you keep getting the code, your EGR indeed causing problems.

Section F2 in the online manauls will have troubleshooting for it.
