Cant find boost leak / boost controller question.

Im almost sure my boost controller is the culprit, cheap ebay.

I am at 5 psi, i floor it and boost stays at 5, the goes and stays at 3. I raise one click, im at 6 psi. I floor it and its fine, stays at 5. Sometimes on the hwy when I floor it, it boosts to 7 then goes back and stays at 5.

So far I have replaced intercooler because it had a small pin hole, used a new one all sealed. Checked my couplers, piping, cant find the leak.

I checked boost gauge line and no leak there either. The IM manifold gaskets are new. The pcv system is not even connected so no leak there. Any plugs on the im are clogged.

So my next step is to replace the boost controller, where did you get yours? what brand should I use? I want manual.

I understand boost controllers all they are is really just an air valve that restricts the flow to the wastegate right?

you are correct. A Boost controller just intercepts the signal and gives the user control over the wastegate.
The gate may be the issue and not the controller. Just like checking a leak in a tire.. a little soapy water/solution can tell you where the leak is.

I am using an electronic, but IIRC turbosmart makes some good manual controllers.

Anyway to find out if its the wastegate? Tomorrow I will open it up and see if theres any holes in the diaphram. Im assuming I can use a vacuum source to open and close the wastegate to see if it works? I cant find the leak tho, so Im aiming for the wastegate now.

I will check with soap tomorrow at the boost controller.

Ok I found the leak. The adapter for my gretty type s wannabe valve is leaking. I think it has been leaking since I had the valve.. nice.. Just ordered a shiny new one.. I think that should solve my boost issues.
