heater core query

JUst curious does it matter to have the swivel quick connector pieces or can u just put a straight hose on it?
Personally, I just undo the hoses anyway.
Who moron decided to use plastic where hot coolant flows? Same deal with the V6's near the filler cap, IIRC. crackage.
