there's nothing really like a performance chip, but you can look into something called Megasquirt

honestly have no idea what that is or how to begin on that and honestly is it going to be a huge hassle to do much to this car without just doing a motor swap if so i just get rid of it

your best bet is a motor swap, but it's one of the easiest motor swaps i've seen, its literally a plug-and-play kind of deal, i recommend you look into it, seach "BP swap" on our forums

Any sort of bolt on you do to the SOHC will be for fairly insignificant gains. As you're used to bigger displacements, you should know that any modification produces results on what it has to work with. Thats why a cold air intake on your 5L might indeed add 25hp, where in these, it might ad somewhere around 2-5.

Honestly, I could BP swap your car in the time it would take you to fit that cam and headers. It is ridiculously easy, and its only a $300 modification for 30 hp and 0.2L of displacement, which will bolster your other mods.

:?

The BP engine costs less than the corksport header. And my mileage didn't change from SOHC to BP swap.

Are you simply making assumptions?

With most sports cars, there is no performance chip that works. Would it not make sense that the sports car manufacturer would make their car as powerful as possible from factory? I think anyone who falls for the idea didn't think it through.

Maybe for bigger motors, where mileage can be exchanged for power, but not on little motors...

I don't think you're being fair Ryan. If you have a bunch of experience in one area you tend to believe that some of what you know is goIng to transpose. In truth, almost all of it does. The difference is tuning.

Hardluck...it is very easy to do this swap and all the information you need to do it is available right here. It's not expensive and for someone with lots of experience there's a lot you can do and you'll find it very easy. I've also done V8 work and an engine is an engine. The difference is in the control system. There are so many aftermarket solutions in the V8 world that are not available here. The MX-3 ECU is just not very easy to reprogram and even if it were you need a power added like increase compression or forced induction to get any serious gains. But you can have a nice peppy sports car that gets good mileage for very little money.

The BP swap is easy and inexpensive.
