Most 94's if not all of them are obd1, some 95s are obdII and 96s are obdII. An easy way to tell is to check the ecu.. Pop off the pass side footwell cover and look at the ecu plugs. If there are 3 total then its a obdI if it has 4 plugs its a obdII. ObdII will also have a diagnostics plug under the dash

Man. You don't need that even if it did work. There's a procedure for reading OBD-I codes involving a paperclip and your ignition key. Search it up on here.

And besides that, did you read the product description? It doesn't even mention MX-3's or the engine. Come on man...

What year is your car? If jumping TEn and Ground doesn't work, and it's OBD-I, I can't see any OBD-I reader working. If your car is '95 or newer it may be OBD-II, but I believe that was only mandated in North America. In Brazil it may not have been.

You need to buy a reader that is compliant with your car. If yours was obd2 you need to buy one of these.
* J1850 PWM (Generally ford vehicles manufactured between 1996-2005)
* J1850 VPW (GM & some chrysler vehicles)
* ISO9141-2 (Most imports)
* KWP2000 (Saturn and some imports)
* ISO15765-4 (CAN) (most 2005 & newer vehicles)

That one you asked about is no good for your car.

My car's year are 1994/1995 dohc 1.6,here we have the same model until the 1998 year, from official importers, I belive that only extra-official imports from USA and Canada come's with this diagnostics system, certainly for cheep the cars sold here, they come withless
air bags and abs brakes...(1.6 dohc), only the 1.8 v6 comes with it, but they are very rare in my country.I guess that obd I reader at the first link that I wrote can works on mx3...

if you have the diagnosis box with TEN and GND in it, you must have the self diagnostic feature. without self diagnostic, it wouldn't give you codes on a reader anyway. It doesn't make sense that you wouldn't have it...

Does the CEL work at all? maybe someone went to the effort to remove the bulb for you.

Plus the reader that you linked to will not work regardless. Nowhere in the product description does it say Mazda MX-3 or 1.6L or 1.8L. It does, however, list the vehicles that it does work for, which aren't this one. Why is this so confusing for you??

- Ok, certainly my car must have the diagnosis system, but not in the cluster with a code error check engine light...
-I found this home made check engine on youtube, I'll try it. What do you think, it can works?
