I don't think its such a big deal... I say it often enough, but its a weird fascination to other cultures, apparently.

I wouldn't call it embarrassing

and I've known Americans who think we all live in igloos and ride buffalo and dog sleds everywhere.

Now, that's embarrassing.

i met a guy named Bob from canada you might know him!

In my opinion... if someone says something in a negative way or mean something to be derogatory...
then a negative reaction would/could be justified....
but if said person was speaking in a possitive manner.... meaning no insult...
then a negative reaction would be just to stir up sh1t or start a problem that is clearly not there.

well i see it moreso as false representation of canada. it just erks me a llittle ... its a social stigma that alot of people have about canadians . ive met europeans, and other nationalities and they never say anything like this. it seems something that american people alone seem to pick at, ill stand corrected though if someone says anything different.
but from my experience, alot of us people always say the same stuff about canadians
so why wouldnt i get annoyed as the news solidify it in the american brains?

Take off, hoser.
J/K!
America is the land of predjudism. We really want to think that we can size people up in an instant, and don't see it as a bad thing. I believe it has to do with fierce capatalism. In business, we need to have this skill, and it's ALL about business here (In general). We really like to "pigeon hole" people, and everything else. It's definitely not an insult (most of the time). I ask questions like that, not meaning offense. If I meat a Russian, and can't think of anything else to talk about, I may ask about Vodka  I was a serious business man, and it is very useful to be able to "size people up". Part of that, though, is being able to not offend them.
I spent some time in Texas, and found myself sating "Y'all". I hated it, but it helped me understand dialects.
What is it about "eh?" that bothers you? I think it's endearing, like people who say "dude", or "Y' know?" all the time. I say "yeah" alot, even in my posts.

LOL It's not a big deal. I hear this everywhere though, I think it's made it on a global scale. I've heard americans say it. It's part of the language, it's not restricted to just Canada.
There's a really good Tim Horton's commercial right now for Roll Up The Rim that's about that but I can't seem to find it, I guess it's still too recent.

But here's some good stuff about the topic for ya: :P

Don't let it bother you, imagine what I go through being from NYC. People die laughing when I leave NY because they say I say New Yawk instead of New York but around my way everyone says it and nobody notices it. It's not just people making fun of Canadians, we make fun of Southerners, people from Boston, Italian-Americans, Mexican-Americans, NYers, people from Wisconsin, etc etc all equally.

the funniest people ever are from canada. That's one prjudism I have; If you're from Canada, I expect you to be funny, and mild mannered. Then St. Pierre started kicking everyone's butt in UFC... He had better be funny.
