i have a 93 sohc 1.6 mx3 and got supper lucky at the yard the other day and found a fresh dohc 1.6 mx3. the only thing i dont know about the swap is the ecu. the new motor was on an automatic and i know the ecus are dif. but how dif. can i use the auto ecu in my manual mx3, or will it run wierd. plus from what i have read i can use my sohc wiring harnes with a couple mods. is that true. i just have to run and pin an extra wire for the tps.

First of all, why?

You're doing all of this work and splicing harnesses and swapping a motor... for 17 hp?

Just get a BP man. This swap isn't as simple as you make it sound. There's a reason no one does it...

yeah when its more about fuel efficiency than power. 40 mpg is wonderfull. if your looking for power why would you even use a bp, put in a kl de. more than the bp you could run a zetec. not to much modifying to make it work. yeah if someone has an extra computer let me know ill send some money. my phone number is 2086401144.

BP requires zero modification to SOHC harness.

Who told you the B6 DOHC gets better mileage than the SOHC? Why not pop in a B8 if thats the idea?

Putting in a KLDE is not a matter of 'while you're at it'. Thats a super complicated and involved swap into an I4.

AFAIK, no one has done the zetec, and I don't know why you'd even volunteer to put that thing in your engine bay.

the b6 dohc is rated to get 2 mpg better than the sohc. makes sense. prob cause of the better tech on the opperating system. i pull 40mpg out of my mx3 as it sits with the sohc and its rated at 35mpg. the dohc is rated at 37mpg. the bp is rated at 30-31 mpg depending on what vehicle it is in. im not building a racecar with this motor, just a cruzer. i drive over 50,000 miles a year. i have a klde/ze in my garage to go into my other mx3 and truthfully, if you already have a v6 modle mx3 the swap is cake. i however am modifying my car and mounting the motor and trans in the rear. mid engine rear wheel drive. thats a little more difficult to pull off but surprisingly has been easyer than i imagined so far.

Humm no faith in a BP makes sense I have no faith in a K-series or BP-T but that's just a opinion.

Ryan let the guy do what ever he wants to do seems like he wants to be different and that's ok more power to him. Everyone has there set ways as do I and you as well.

To seawulff, good luck into what u want to do to yours MX-3. start a worklog.
