The bp swapped mx3 i have is currently overcharging and killing my battery, its charging approx 15 volts. I changed the altenator last night and am still having the same issue. I am horrible diagnosing charging system problems. What else should i be looking at?

I believe its using a bp wiring harness

Where did you get the other Alt from. It could be bad as well. I'd take it in to an auto electric place and have it checked. They'll usually do that for free.

It was a spare of mine that i used on my black mx3 back when it still had the sohc, i bought it brand new, used it for less than 6 months and stored it indoors ever since.

OK stupid question. Have you tried another battery? Go to the online manual 1995 Workshop Manual page G-008 and check out that trouble shooting section. Cheers

Battery was a newish optima i took out of my Jimmy.

I think i may have found my problem, i know the ignition switch needs to be replaced and didnt know that the ignition switch was part of the circuit.

Edited: because i read what i wrote after i posted and

If its over 15 volts or getting even close the regulator in the
alternator is toast. It should keep charging to 14.3 - 14.7 ish.
When it goes above something is wrong, take out the alternator
and have it tested.
