how functional is it? It's so close to the roof that I wouldn't see much benefit if any at all.

i wouldnt know. all i know is theyre made for other cars and not the mx3. And i wanted one  I dont really follow you on the fact it wouldnt do anything because of the location. Ive read topics on other forums over and over with people arguing weather b-pillar bars are functional or just for looks... everyone seems to have their opinion

There have been several people that have built these for the mx-3's... but nobody has ever mass produced them. I think we (the NW mx-3 crew) were going to try and build the b-pillar bars and then connect the rear strut towers to the corners of the b-pillar bar in an X formation...

yeah I gave some thought to that. only problem is not many people would want them because it makes your car a 2 seater. Im making a normal rear strut brace now that is also one piece aluminum to replace my crappy ebay bar

My original bracket for the b pillar had just the bolt hole and was not slotted. but that made it impossible to install, lol. if youve ever taken the seat belt off youll know why. luckily the seat belt bolts have a "shoulder" on them the diameter of which is wider then the threads of the bolt. so all you have to do is back the bolt out until you see 3/16 of thread , slide the bar in, and tighten it down. its essentially locked in.

I dont know about mass producing them, but maybe a small group buy if theres a handful of people who like it and i can get the price cheap enough. if it comes to that, for now I just posted up to get some feedback

I'm totally cool making my car a 2 seater. Can you adapt the bar to allow for the install of a 4 point harness?

i say its functional, it stiffens up the body so it doesnt flex so much.its make it so both sides of the car are 1.

Looks as though 4 or 5 people would be interested in one of these. If we can scrounge up 10 Ill contact admin and see if we can do a GB. One thing ive noticed on more then a few group buys on this site is alot of times they drag on for months and the threads hit 10 pages of nothing but complaining, lol . For that reason I wont go more then 10 and I see no reason why i coundnt get them all made in a week and shipped out.

heres a few installation notes.

on the first picture you see i cut back one side of the black plastic cover with side cutters. youll need to do that to be able to close it over the bar. it still snaps shut on the one side and looks good. :2thumbsup:

second, for obvious reasons the seat belt will not "swivel" any more since both sides are connected together with the bar. when installing, rotate the belt all the way to the forward position and tighten it down. that way the belts will still pull out and retract as normal. the last 2 pics show it bolted down rotated all the way forward.

Whats the approximate cost of these shipped do you think? Is powdercoating a option? If it's not I have a local source for that, but just wondering.

I have the automatic seatbelts... would this work, or would I need to modify some things?
