I just noticed a squeaky noise which sounds like its coming from the timing belt area, im just wondering if the mx3s have a interference engine because my mechanic can only check it out monday and if my timing belt snaps on me while driving i dont want to deal with bent valves and such.

Im thinking its the accessory belt tho thats squealing, only noticed it when when my engine was running cold.

From what I know, K series motors are all non-interference. The timing either works or it doesn't. When my friend timed his ZE one tooth off, it wouldn't even start. I helped him get it timed and it started up like normal.

Mazda doesn't even make interference engines.

Except rotatries. They are interference. Those valves get in the way all the time. Poor guys are always fixing them.
