gas pedal sticking

Post by Mariob316 »

hey, i have a '94 Gs and every once and awhile the gas pedal seems to "stick" randomly. What i mean by stick is when im lets say in neutral and i rev to like 2000rpm and let go of the gas, the rpm will stay at 2000. It also happens when im driving, when i got to change gear and press the clutch my rpm shoot up and stay there until i either put my foot under the gas pedal and move it up, or give it a lil more gas. Also most of the time my idle is at about 1500rpm and sometime goes back to normal 750ish i think.

First check to see if your throttle cable is stuck on anything.

Then I would say to remove your TB and remove the IAC underneath it and see if there is any junk in it from the cooling system that needs to be cleaned out. In fact, clean your TB too.

Is it still doing this if you're driving when the car is at operating temperature. Warm it up first and make sure if it is still doing this or not too.

Also, there is a spring on the TB, make sure that it is operating correctly, as well as the spring behind the pedal itself. Check the little idle stop thing too.. Its this little chamber with a little piston that stops the idle from slamming shut. Its what the throttle pully rests against when idling...

I have the same problem too.
I havent tried to fix it. Last time I looked at my gas pedal, there was a bolt underneath where you can tighten it... or I think its adjusting the gas pedal.

Look into that

Ok, I'm one of those, "It's usually the simplest explanation" kinda guys. So I'm going to throw this out there.... There is a little rubber stopper on the throttle linkage that connects to the TB. Make sure that it hasn't worked it's way up the cable. It happens.
