RANT: why can't i find a 94 v6 mx3 in california?

this really bothers me. I would like to buy a Mx3 GS with the bubbley interior and non automatic seat belts, but the US discountinued them after 94, and finding a 94GS, especially in California, ranges from extremely difficult to nearly impossible. I love my 92, but my first car was a 94 MX3 rs, and now I'm in love the with smoothness and power of the GS, so I want a happy medium i guess. And I look all over craigslist (not just in cali), and I can't find them in the US. But if I click on Ontario or Toronto, and bam, a 96 GS, exactly as I want it. If it wasn't for the whole importing cost and nonsensical paperwork, I would not hesitate to buy, but alas I am just a college student who just spent his savings on tuition. Darn you mazda! you've bewitched me with this car, and are torturing me.

Why didn't I move to Canada when I had the chance?!

question for all of you:

Let's say you were in charge of designing the MX3. If you could change five things about the mx3, what would they have been?

Why don't you just do a dash swap/interior swap to the 94+ style? That'd be a good happy (potential headache involved) medium between wanting a 94 GS and working with what you got.

Well, I would, except the dash and seats and everything is the taupe/tan color (and the car is gold), so a black bubble interior just won't do. And, I have to admit I am a novice at working on cars, and at wiring. more of a computer guy, but I am willing to learn. and another issue, is that the apartment complex i live at doesn't allow me to work on my car.

my apartment forbade anyone from even changing fluids in the parking lot..

... I ended up re-ringing my pistons there. heh.

I wasn't allowed to work on cars where I live now, but after the landlord saw the array of car parts and the mx-3 in the garage covered in more parts, the landlord said, "At least you're staying out of trouble."

Couldn't you paint the bubble dash taupe or whatever? I don't know how that would look, but its just a thought. Also, I dont think you have to rewire anything if you keep the HVAC you have now. I believe the people that have the wiring nightmare are the ones that switch to the push button style instead of leaving the slider style. (not sure though!)

As for the the apartment complex issue....say your car exploded? Or someone broke in and destroyed your dash panel? (nothing a knife couldn't help with) Also, if you just flat out ask the landlord/owners of the complex, they might approve. Its all interior stuff, nothing greasy like doing an engine swap or anything. When the job is done, no one will know unless you set fire to the old dash in the parking lot or something.

If the online option fails.. go see a broker.

I just inported an 08 Scion XB from Washington... we don't have them up here. It was easy as hell. If you know what you want, go get it.

I know you don't like reading novels and essays, mx3kid (good luck in college)
but if you read his post, he's looking for a 94 gs.

Of course, SuperK. Didn't you know that?
After all, what makes so difficult to buy an RS and swap the motor...and ECU...and harness...and rear brakes...and install a sunroof...and a rear wiper...
What could possibly be his excuse for not wanting to do that tiny bit of work?

This thread is digressing. However it is a rant thread.

You know what RS, I hate you. Not really, but I really want a TC. I always have.

Lol.

I want a TC too. The xB is the wife's daily driver. Same engine as the TC, 2az-fe manual trans. It's fun as hell to drive. It's no mx, but I like it. Sounds like we are getting a scion dealership at the end of the year.
