Yep, another new guy question...

Post by Billcjr »

I'm contemplating a BP swap for my 94 4 cyl with an automatic transmission. I've read about the swap and will read more, but did want to get a few opinions from some who have done it before I get going. If I can get the whole "BP car" (a 94 Escort GT) for approximately the same price as the engine/tranny...are there enough other pieces/parts to make it worthwhile? Especially since I'll be going from an auto to a manual...I figure having the donor car wouldn't hurt...except for the extra space it'll take, disposal of carcass, etc. Also just wanted to verify that the 94 MX-3 does in fact have the proper holes/etc in the firewall to go from auto to manual? I'm pretty sure I read that, but can't remember where. I don't mind some extra work, just not into drilling too many holes in firewalls if I can help it. And the last question is about the donor car itself...do ALL '94 Excort GT's have the BP? The car is a bit distant from here, and before I drag a truck and trailer that far it would be nice to know. If some don't have that engine, I can make a "scouting" run first if someone can point me what to look for. I trust the guy as far as condition, he just doesn't know what engine is in it. Thanks in advance, this seems like a decent forum.

You'd be better off getting the whole car so you will for sure have everything for the swap you need and not have to go scavenging for small forgotten parts. You could use the rear disc brakes if you wanted to and it is basically plug and play if you swap in the BP harness and the mounting holes should already be in place for your pedals, etc.
