A brief moment of exhaust engine smoke

I changed my oil Sunday afternoon and didn't need the car for the day, therefore, it sat in the garage until this morning when I started it to go to work. Upon the first 15 seconds or so, white smoke was coming out of the exhaust similar to burning oil. Then, it cleared and nothing more after that.

I have the 93' 4 banger with 178,000 miles on it. Any ideas why this happened?

Thank you

Let us know if it does that again the next time you start the car after sitting for a while. If it doesn't happen again it's probably nothing. If it does you may have a valve stem seal issue.

The car sat since Monday evening to this morning and nothing happened. Therefore, it was obviously a one time fluke. Though, I am still wondering why it did so.

maybe it was just condensation in your exhaust. i have that every now and then, if its not that thick white smoke and only happened once its probably that.

Just out of curiousity though, what would thick white smoke mean? I have been told that my car does it from time to time even after the motor warms up.

Burning coolant. If it's consistent and bad it usually means a blown head gasket.
