Some New Rims and an IAC Block Off Plate

Post by hppwdn »

225s weren't gonna cut it at the track for the new power and I needed to up the overall diameter of my rim/tire to stretch my traps in 4th so I went for about the widest tire you can fit in an mx3 wheel well. Rims are Rota Subzero 17x7.5 (16 lbs) and Yokohama S.Drives in 245/45/17 (24 lbs). I think it needs to be lowered a little more and get the wheel gap down to close to zero, but that'll be next time I take the wheels off. The higher stance gives me some much needed ground clearance. Some how, these look a lot bigger than my old gunmetal 17s.

Now for the IAC Block Off plate. I had one made since my IAC hasn't been hooked up in forever. It fits perfect and really fixed up the idle from the unhooked IAC.

Function over form. I'm amazed they fit in the wheel well. They stick out a tad, but not really any worse than my old set. I would be afraid if I saw a little econobox with tires like that in my rearview.

Nope. It was a very precise project to make tires that big fit. You can't do it without a full coilover suspension, and even then you have to set it up properly so the perches sit above the widest part of the tire. It took a lot of adjusting to get it lined up.

Ok, that explains it. I was gonna be like, Holy buckets!!! How did you get those to work without rubbing!!

225 is the widest you can go with spring/strut setups, and then it rubs just a tad....

225 45 17 was the biggest tire I could get on my fronts and even then I had to bang the bottom of the strut just a bit to clear the right strut. Somehow the driver side strut fit fine, about a millileter or so in clearance.
