When above 25 MPH, steering wheel "rattles"

So I noticed today a strange occurrence that was happening when I drove my car. When I sped up past 25 MPH, the steering wheel would "rattle." It would like.. shake to the left and right.. as if it was turning slightly (though the car was driving straight). It's hard to explain but.. think of turning the wheel left and right just slightly.. it was moving like that except the car was still driving straight. I noticed it when driving as I could feel it vibrating.. and when i took my hand off i noticed it..

any ideas?

Do you normally have play in the steering wheel?

was this under acceleration/braking?

alignment issues? stock or aftermarket steering wheel? Did you just change over to summer tires?

I think you may just need your tires balanced. Mine was doing this around 50-60 MPH and up, got the car balanced last week and a hole plugged (screw in tire) for $25 at a Mexican tire joint on the corner by my job. Rides smooth as butter now.

you probably threw a weight, go get them rebalanced.
sounds definitely like a balancing issue, for sure not alignment

this is not a "braking/accelerating" issue, as it happens any time above 25 MPH, but when I go slower it stops.

The car seems to drive straight, and even above 25 MPH it does. Though, I haven't gotten the car aligned yet   .

The steering wheel is aftermarket btw, and normally there is not this much play. It seems to do it "on it's own" which I know I've never felt before lol.

I did just change over to summer tires which I am about to post about in another thread as they really screwed me over big time... so in that sense I wouldn't be surprised if it was a balancing issue.. I'll check on that as well.

Thanks a lot everyone!

just updating to let you all know that it indeed was a balancing issue. The left was off a little.. i think a 1.00 weight was thrown off. So yeah.. got the knew weights on today and it's smooth as butter

im surpised nobody said it could be a shifted belt in your tire..... 25 mph is slow for a balancing issue im surprised it was just that.
