what all models of probe/escort 5 speed transmissions will work on my 92 mx3 4 cylinder with a ruined auto trans? i dont care if itll take a little extra work i just need to know what ones are compatible so i can go get a parts car & start taking the old trans out. will any probe/escort from 91-96 with a 5 speed mated to a 4 cylinder work for me? sorry but i have been searching and am yet to come up with an answer but once i have one im ready to get this thing done.

all B series trannies interhcange... all K series trannies interchange. The axles differ sometimes. Make sure you pick those up too, with the hubs and such...and of course hte shift linkage and all that good stuff, the hydraulics for the clutch...

search "Mazda B motor" on wiki, and "Mazda K motor" on wiki. lists of what came with what.


This question DOES get annoying. Especially with threads like "Official Tranny Swap Info" stickied under "Transmissions" and the thousands of other threads... plus the worklogs with 5 speed swaps, and the writeups in the FAQ's....

yea well ive been thru that thread & i didnt read anywhere that all b series trans interchange, all i read was s--- tons of GR info-so if its there its not easy enough to sort out for people who -dont- work on these carsall the time & -dont- have 2 or 3 of them in their garage awaiting dif engines or trans to be swapped in.

For the Escort, the 1.8 trans will work, but on the 1.9, that's a Ford motor, so i don't think it'll mate up

The Probe, it uses either a k-series V6 or an f-series 4cyl, so they're both incompatible with your 4cyl Mx-3

90-94 Protege LX/GT 1.8
91-96 Escort GT 1.8
90-93 Mercury Capri 1.6
As far as im aware no probe used a b-series
