Gauge Cluster Removal

Hello all, I am new to the forums and am a novice do-it-yourselfer. I would like to remove the gauge cluster so I can paint the bezel blaze red. I removed the three screws above the cluster, and the three screws for the lower panel below steering column. What I'd like to know is if there are any other screws/fasteners/clips that I am not aware of because it's not coming out and I don't want to break anything. I only want to go mild on the interior because I think the SE has a beautiful interior stock and don't want to further modify it aside from the bezel. I've browsed the forums for a while and you guys have helped me out a lot. Any insight would be great. Thanks.

You have a SE?

I'll assume then that you have a digital speedometer, as apposed to cable.

The actual shroud... the top piece covering the steering column should pop off if you removed the drivers-side-most screw on the bottom. Behind that, you'll see a little rubber flap. Behind that there are two more screws. The shroud should come off at this point (I've taken my cluster out 10+ times but I'm having a brain fart) Then the screws holding the actual cluster should be apparent. Once all the screws are out, you need to pull the cluster out as far as you can, and reach behind and get all the clips. Voila. You'll need a little phillips to get the bezel off, I believe.

Hope it doesn't look tacky.

She's an SE, and proud to say the cleanest MX-3 in the city. I'll give it a try for sure, I did notice a screw on either side of the steering column but I'll be damned I can't even fit my pinky in there. I can't even tell if those screws attach to the shroud or what.....

I might be crazy. Don't worry about it. It should have "Special Edition" stickers somewhere, I just don't know where.

Some info you just don't absorb, because it doesn't apply...

So it looks like as per that diagram fig. 9 comes apart, and I get access to that rubber flappy dealy, and those two screws can be accessed from there. Sweet! I'll give it a shot first thing in the morning, thanks a lot!

If your car has 25th anniversary with a maple leaf on the front fenders, then it is an SE. SE's did not come with the 94+ dash. They had the 92-93 style. All leather interior/ heated seats is also a good way to tell its an SE. There were few blaze red Se's. If you do have one, keep it mint forever!

All SE's are 93 and therefore have the 92-93 interior. Ask Colin he did a 94+ dash swap to his SE. Also I've got a 92 with that interior (which I prefer way more than the bubble crap :P). Never removed it though cause I don't know how, I want to though, so this will come in handy for me as well lol.
