Paint's Done

Post by hppwdn »

The paint is done. It was a long process, but I can finally say I think the car looks good. The car is nicknamed Goldmember thanks to Funzie on Probetalk so I had only one choice for paint. GOLD. I was pretty picky with the shade and the paint guy did a good job with the color. The only pics not in here are of the completed engine bay which included a large amount of rewiring to make it a clean engine bay with very few visible wires. Those will be up in a week or so.

I had a bunch of little things shaved and added a Mazdaspeed front bumper, Canadian MX3 GS wrap around spoiler, clear corners, and got lucky to come across a set of brand new from Mazda headlghts.

The paint glimmers in the sunlight a lot better than the pics can capture.

Progress pics are in these two threads

Also, for the more detail oriented MX3 guys you'll notice there is no front license plate mount on the MS Bumper. I had the body shop guy smooth it out so it looks like a genuine MS bumper instead of the corksport repro.

The gaps where there even with the stock bumper. I depends what angle you look at it from. From normal viewing angles it looks fine, but if you look up at the car from below the headlights the gaps are there.

I'm not sure if all the mx3s are like that or if a previous wreck with mine may have done that. Everything is lined up and flush at the mounting points so it's about as good as it's gonna get.

They look like newish OEM lights.

I noticed that you put on the wrap spoiler as well. Nice choice, they are really nice :)

What size tires are you running? 225? any fender rolling or spacers for that?

Also, looks like you are missing a mudflap :P

They're brand new OEM headlights straight out of the box from Mazda. The plastic variety. A guy showed up at Flyrtle with a pick-up full of MX3 parts he'd had in storage forever. Got the bumper from the same guy.

Tires are 225/50/15 on a 15x6.5 rim with a +40 offset. No spacers or fender rolling. I have some full coil overs coming so I can run a little taller and wider tire combo to keep me in 4th at the end of the 1/4 mile.

Ya, the other mudflap is at the house. I knew someone would notice it was missing. The mounting piece on the bottom of the car was all screwed up. I have to put it back on later this week.

If I had any they would be jealous. Finding people that work on MX3s is tough, fast MX3s are very uncommon down here in SFL. The one other MX3 guy we had got hit and ended up with an MX6 to replace it.

Thanks for the deal on the spoiler. It was worth the wait and all the work to get it on.
