Umm not sure if you'll get this but everyone here does the following:

for the I4:

ATX to MTX swap (as the ATX from what i've read on here will not work well with the more powerful engine).

Mazda BP or BP-T Engine (BP is found in a Ford Escort GT.. early 90's if i'm correct)

For the V6

(not sure about ATX to MTX but I am assuming they do that as well)

Mazda KLZE Engine (not sure about this one at all).

I'm pretty sure they are all okay, but then again not sure..

more helpful people will probably post so yeah... good luck :mrgreen:

I don't know exactly what you're talking about, but isn't that a rotary motor?

Yeah, it bolts right to your tranny. You also just need to run two extra wires for the 6 plugs on that motor, oh and you need to remove the washer fluid resevoir so it fits nice. Also, you'll need to swap the ECU because, well you know, its an entirely different motor...

Are you dumb? Thats a rediculous idea. How do you fit a RWD tranny into a FWD car?

got 30k to spend? go for it.

If your trying to pass smog in California with an engine swap, your in for a surprise. If your swapped engine is similar to your old engine, then you might be able to get a smog certificate. But if they see it's not the stock engine, By law there suppose to refer you to the California state smog referee, to get your smog sticker for your swapped engine.

They will inspect your car, smog test it. One of the laws with swapped engines is you can't put an older vehicle's engine in. So putting in an 89 bpt in a 92+ Mx-3 won't pass. Putting a V6 in an I4 probably won't pass either.

While this article is up, quick question: What car do you pull the bpt from? The bpt is not the V6 one is it? I'm asking because everyone says the switch from 4 banger to 6 in a MX-3 is near imposible without a parts car.

If I could get the BPT from something that'd be great because it already has a turbo on it if I'm not mistaken, right? If so I can always improve upon it or put a new one on.

Do you know what the BP is?

BPT is a turbocharged BP... its kinda in the name. BPT. B6T KLZE-T you generally put the right together if its stock, and a comma or a + if you added it...

BPT I believe came in some rare varients of 323's, and of course MS Miatas (won't fit though). Same with B6T's

Yes but Ryan does B6T mean that it's a six-cylinder engine with a turbo? Or does the V6 engine have a entirely different code than a 4 cylinder BP? It's slightly confusing (or maybe I'm just slow) because there are so many B engines. I know the Miata engines won't work be cause they're RWD, but if I can find a 323 with a BPT or B6T or whatever I want to know before I buy it that it'll be an "easy swap" as everyone puts it.

Pretty much what does the 6 in B6T mean exactly?

all b series engines are 4 cylinder
b6 = 1.6 litres
bp = 1.8 litres

so what would b6t mean?
1.6 litre turbo
can you guess what bpt means?

You really should read around in the 4 cylinder faq, or use the search function, its not very hard and you should be able to find all of your answers if you use the correct terms.

Nos92, I do, have, and have been for a number of years. Nobody has put it so simply honestly. Even the guy who reposted the whole BP swap guide from a different website didn't explain exactly what the different engines were. And if I remember correctly he explicitly said in his article he wasn't going to tell you each individual engine.

Most questions on this site ask specifically about their engine. How am I supposed to infer what engine a BP-KL-ZE-T is versus a B6T or a BPT or whatever when a guy is asking about his BP? I've said it before: the swap guides don't really make it so easy. In addition, the search function brings up any article with "BP" in it if I look for "engine types" or so-forth, it doesn't help me one bit if I get 100 or so articles about a guy asking one question about his engine. Shoot even the wikipedia article on B engines isn't very clear.

This is off-topic, kind of, but thank you for answering my question.

I'm canadian, and I never have to pass smog tests - ever.

Whatever swaps you've heard of, its possible.

most common and most support are found for B6T or B6+t, or BPt or B6+t, or KLDE and KLDE both +t.... KFZE is rare and hard to find parts, and less powerful than KLZE.

Turbo kits are available for B6DE, I believe, as well as the BP. I know turbo kits are available for the K8, KLDE and KLZE.
