1992 mazda mx3 will not start with fuel pump plugged in

1992 mazda mx3, v6 1.8 ltr, did head gaskets timing belt and intake gaskets, put all together only time it will fire is when fuel pump is unplugged, once it starts plug fuel pump in , have to keep rpms around 2100, and has smoke out of exhaust like its getting to much fuel, made sure timming was on, and made sure cam shafts were lined up. changed coolant sensor, does the fuel line from the fuel filter go on the fuel regulator side or the other side of the injector rail please help

Feed line (from filter) goes to the rail. The return line goes to the regulator.

that solves that thnx, but it still acts like its getting to much fuel, if i unplug the fuel pump turn the car over a few times it will try and start , plug it back in it just turns over

Did one of the injector wires get pinched? Other wiring get pinched? The injectors are either leaking or their being told to inject too much fuel. Or your timing is off.
Unplug all the injectors and with the key on check voltage on each connector. There should be nothing across the pins. If you find 12v then you pinched an injector ground somewhere or an injector driver is blown. One of the pins is 12v (referenced to ground) but in reference to the other pin there should be 0v.
If that tests ok then something is telling the ecu to spray too much. maf? temp sensor?
Since the car ran before, I'd tripple check your timing.
