Engine knocking?

Suddenly my engine started making some knocking sounds. It's been like this for a week now.
I've made a video withe the sound for you guys to check out:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdMNjxTCJsw

It does this in neutral, and in gear as long as don't rev past 2000ish. The knocking sound speeds up as you rev.
Any guess?

i have this exact same problem but mine is a more consistent tick sound so im guessing it has something to do with a piston or cylinder.

I'm not going to lie my oil was low then i topped her up...so maybe the damage is already done i don't know.
But im going to try and do an engine swap anyways to a 2.0 L V6 from the original 1.8L V6.
My question was that, can i keep everything the same? like the tranny for example or do i need to buy other parts that will make it compatible with the new engine.
heres the link to the 2.0L if it helps any.

2.0L KFze should bolt up to stock tranny no problem. Do more research on here, tons of info.

i threw a rod bearing and it sounded exactly like that. it all started with low oil too. if your oil light is flickering too, thats probably the culprit.

I thought the HLA's sounded like that too when they needed to be cleaned?

Sounds like HLAs to me?

My k8 and kfze had the same sound. Drive it till she dies.

Im not going to lie my new ZE sounds simililar though not as loud - I would go back to the engine place AGAIN but Im up at school and just dont want to go through the hassle if its just HLA's. I'm going to try running some stronger detergent through the crankcase and flush the oil a few times over a few minutes, maybe I'll see an improvement. I don't think it's rod knock because I would think it wouldbe REALLY loudlike this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXfdnzBiMfM" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

To me, it sound like an old tensioner going bad.

Loose timming belt is tapping against the cover.

none of you specified which oil/filter youre using.

I allways feed my engine with 5w40 every change, but since I have to add some oil time to time I do it with 10w40, just until it's time to change again.

i believe k8 specifies 10w30 and 5w30 for winter, running anything thicker will not get to hla's and increase ticking/noise. Also stay away from cheap oil filters.

My oil level is full and i'm using 10w40 if remeber correctly.
I had a friend of mine listenning to it, he said he had the same sound when the tensioner on is fiat died.

I'm also thinking HLAs or exaust leak into the IM. If it's the HLAs, will it damage the engine on the long run? Or will just have to replace them?

In fact the sound is near the piston1 valve cover/IM/timming belt cover. Tried to pull codes, but no CEL. As a matter of fact, i've never seen my CEL light on. I have a windshield wiper water light where you guys have the CEL light.

Lights on left side top to bottom:
- low windshield wiper water level
- blank (was never on, maybe CEL?)
- ABS
- Fog light indicator

This leaves me baffled also.
