Should my Check engine light

Hey, have a quick question. When I put my key in and turn it a few clicks (don't actually turn the engine over) should my check engine light up,because it is not. I have everything light up except a big rectangle (maybe two boxes?) on the very top left. I'm thinking the previous owner took the bulb out or covered it up.

Thanks

Maybe your CEL was on so much it burned out. In that case, I'm surprised your car works? After all, it must've been abused.

the car was abused a lot. Looked like someone hadn't changed the oil in the last 50,000 miles. That is why I did an engine rebuild. :)

Got any pics of how the engine looked before you rebuilt it? (inside valve cover?) I'd be interested to see how it looked.

Maybe the previous owner couldnt get a problem to go away so he took the bulb out so the buyer would think there isnt a CEL light on? Take the Cluster out and check for a bulb/ replace it if nessecary.

my check engine light does not come on either. and any garage i take to takes soo long trying to find out the problem because they are used to hooking new cars up to the computers to tell you whats wrong with them.
