hey Im not sure if this is in the proper section or even if this is going to work, but I was wondering if anyone knows of where I can find a lightweight gas tank for a 93 mx3.

I remember my old mx3 gas tank rusted and leaked fuel, and my cousins mx3 did the same thing, and now the one I just bought is doing it also. So if anyone knows of someplace to get another tank that is not as heavy, or one that wont rust, that would be great. I hope I explained everything properly!!

no i dont think so, just because if I have a full roll cage then I dont think it will work, so I was thinking about something made of plasticc or a lighter metal.

ive thought about putting a fuel cell in mine lately. Anyone done that very thing?

How light would a fuel cell be compared to a stock tank anyway? The stock tank isn't that heavy, it's just large and made with farily thin metal, and the aftermarket ones are thiner than stock.. I've never seen never mind held a fuel cell, but I would see it being made of a farily thick and stong metal to survive impacts, and even just the weight of the fuel itself.

well my grandfather just pulled his out of his trans am and it was empty and it had a buit of weight to it? maybe it was made of something thick, didnt bother to ask what it was made of

mx3's have a smaller gas tank than a trans-am. I think a stock gas tank weighs around 25 lbs - 30 lbs.

hummm, 20-30lbs, isnt too bad, I just know that some are super heavy, and Im trying to keep my car as light as possible.

Yes a Fuel Cell will fit in anything.

See my cardomain page (link in my signature below)to see what a JEGs 10 Gallon Aluminum Fuel Cell looks like in the back my 93 MX-3 with -8AN SS-braided fuel lines and a 110GPH@60psi Accel DFI fuel pump....its how I feed 500+HP on pump gas .

A custom Aluminum or Steel Fuel Cell can be made to replace the stock gas tank in the stock location but would cost you some serious coin! You could even do a custom poly cell with todays epoxies that are out there.

Fuel cells are made several differnet ways and out of different materials:
-All Aluminum (very light weight with good strength...incrible when made with a poly bladder like ATL Fuel Cells)
-Polyethelene (my spelln sucks) (is most flexible before rupturing but punctures fairly easily compaired to aluminum, also very light weight)
-All Steel (heaviest espescially when set up for road racing with a poly bladder...see ATL Fuel Cells, http://www.atlfuelcells.com,...usually" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; most expensive)

wow its been a while since I posted in here, but anyhow, I still havent done anything with the gas tank, I just dont fill it up full anymore. So in this case I guess my question would be what is the benifit of a fuel cell, like why would I get one instead of just getting another gas tank??

well serious racers use them because a) In most racing series it is a requirement for safety, and b)particularly for drag cars, they don't need that much fuel and it allows them to locate the mass of the fuel for best weight distribution, what ever that may be for your application.

For a daily driver, it doesn't make a lot of sense unless you don't mind having a very short range.

they are aluminium, usually they are a lot smaller then a normal gas tank so a full tank weighs less right.

MX-3 is very front heavy, so a heavy gas tank in the back isn't too bad - helps with weight distribution. You want to lighten your car, yes, but do it evenly. Some people even transfer batteries to the back, to offset the weight.
