FPR control solenoid

okay, yesterday when i was going to work, my car wouldn't start, it was attempting to turn over and simply wouldn't...

I've ruled out alternator / Battery and ignition, so i decided to run to Test ENgine to ground with the paperclip technique to see what was going on (after clearing out the codes by holding the break down with the battery disconnected). i got 2 slow lights followed by 5 rapid flashes (code 25) when i looked it up, that means a bad Fuel Pressure Regulator Control Solenoid. when i was attempting to push-start it yesterday i was smelling some fuel somewhere. could this be the cause of my woes? how would i go about replacing it and how hard is it to get at?

PRC solenoid failure is highly unlikely to prevent the engine from starting - more than likely you got codes 2 & 5 - Crankshaft position sensor & knock sensor.

so the crank and knock sensor WOULD stop my car from firing up?

If you have spark & fuel - then the only other variable is timing - both ckp & knock sensor readings play a crucial role in calculating ignition timing...

oh one thing... a code 2 would be two rapid flashing lights, not two longer flashing lights, isn't that right? maybe i'm reading it wrong. i just know the sequence was as follows:

--- --- - - - - -

thanks for your help though, i'll try to code again tomorrow and look into it a bit more.

okay, i might have to admit defeat on this one... after poking around for a while i can't seem to figure out what the problem is... i cleared the codes and ran the check engine test again and now it's not reading anything...

bah, i'll have to get it pushed to a mechanic

Are you sure you have spark? This sounds like the notorious disty problem ....

ya know... i'm actually suspecting the same thing... i've heard about it. read about it, but not had to deal with it. that problem would indeed stop the car from firing up huh?

okay, there is NO spark, so it must be the disty. what was that guide to replacing the stock one? i can't remember or i'd search for it.
