If it was from an LX, and you live in the USA, that is the right vehicle. The tranny is actually an G25M-R. Its the same tranny used by the 626, MX6, and V6 MX3.
Same series, I mean. They all have slight differences in gear ratios. The good news is any LSD that fits on those models will fit on your transmission. The final drive is 4.105:1, so just double check that the LSD you pick up also has that ratio.

Not being an expert, that is merely the best of my knowledge and I do not guarantee that I am correct.

You won't be spinning much tires on just a BP, though. Turbo it, and for sure.

The MazdaSpeed LSD can be ordered by your local dealer for the Protege. My dealer told me it was special order and would take a week to bring in.

Part # GSY1-27-190 $643.31

Careful with part #'s. Some have been superceded.

I would dissuade you from dealers.. I'm an employee and I still get an extra 20% of my purchase sent to the dealership.
