I dont, but my old motors did. It seems that all older k8s burn oil, usually bad rings and seals that develop over time. There is not a whole lot you can do to fix that unless you get a rebuild or swap the motor but I wouldnt say it is uncommon for the k8 to burn oil

if its leaking Id check where leak is at and try to fix it. If it's burning it only thing you can do is rebuild heads or swap to ze, etc.

Don't be offended if this is obvious, but check the torque on your valve cover bolts. A well respected old skool member here is driving around with his leaking

lol yes indeed! I'm sure checking those or doing a simple valve gasket replacement will fix all my leaking problems... as far as the burning... only time will tell! :o

Wow, it's been a long time since I've posted here. I am building/rebuilding a K8. hehe Why you ask? My K8 (189k miles) is burning oil at higher rpms and I'm still in the College of Engineering at USF (No major source of income...). I found a brand new Mazda K8 short block for $200 and I am going with a K8 purely for financial reasons. If nothing else, I will probably have the best running K8 lol

I lucked out on it. I was just doing various web searches for K8 rebuild parts and came across an expired ebay auction from a few months back where a guy had 7 brand new K8 short blocks he got from an IRS auction sealed in factory packages for $400. I sent him an e-mail and he said he had one left; but, it wasn't in the package so he gave it to me for $200. It seems to be hardly dirty at all and I think it will be perfect once I clean off the gunk from the factory that protects it... Searching long and hard sometimes does pay off :D

wow a spanking new k8 NICE!

Where do you find these IRS auctions?

Also, my k8 burned oil but then again it was 200k miles old.

No one ever bought it for the measly 150 i was selling locally. it just sits there.. lol
