Removing far right air vent outer ring

Post by bluechro »

I'm looking to remove the ring around the air vent on the far right... Does anybody know if it pops off or if the entire dash needs to be taken out?

ALL airvents including that one are screwed from behind. You may be able to take out the glove box and remove the two philips screws that are holding it in? Its been awhile since i remove my entire dash but i am pretty sure it is screwed from behind.

Alright.. I'll see what I can do.

Does anybody else know any other way to get to the back of it without removing the dash?

You don't need to remove the dash. If you open the glove box you can reach your hand up to it. It's clipped in there pretty good, but you can pop it out if you work at it. If you have an autowrecker in town with an MX-3 you may want to practice on that one, and even buy the vent if you get it out. That way if you crack yours' trying to get it out you'll have a replacement.

I had no problem reaching it, but I couldn't figure out how it popped out.. I was looking for screws (as the other vents) but couldn't see any. Are there just some tabs that need to be forced down?

Yes... sort of. The tabs kind of need to be forced out. If you look at the way the other vents come apart once you unscrew them from the bezel, it's very similar if not the same. This one is not screwed in though.

I painted my 95's, and I just popped it out. No screws.
