That is the ad for the car I am thinking about buying, not sure if it is a V6 or 4cyl yet, but was hoping to find some insight to the problem before purchasing it.

That depends I think on which engine is in it.

If it is the v6, then it is the VAF malfuncioning.
unless it is a cracked intake hose.

it is the sensor in the air intake system. It is common to breakdown, and cause the engine to do what you are experiencing.


I have one for sale, $25 +shipping.(would be cheap because it is pretty small and light)

Thanks! I have been trying to get in touch with the owner, which has not been easy so far...Will let you know if it works out and I need the sensor.

BTW The Fairlady must pretty fun - I have a JDM as well, but it is a bit slower - a Toyota Master Ace Surf Grand Saloon (what is with those JDM names?!) a fairly heavy van with a turbo diesel. At least we can pass VW's on the hills, but it is a very tense and close race every time

I say look at the car first.. then deal with problems. Kinda hard to diagnose if you dont know what you have.
