Search Function

Sorry if this sounds like a rant but dont know if anyone has brought this up yet.

Ok so all I hear about all day on this forum is people saying use the search function to find the info you need. And I just want to ask them have they ever tried using it recently. Last time I used it say I want BP swap info, it just looks up posts with those 3 words in them, anywhere. Even narrowing it down I would still get like 1k posts, like Im going to search through all that. I would just like the search to automatically look for thread titles first, then list posts specifically. Another thing is, a lot of the stuff in the faqs, the really good info, or some really odd info some of the links seem to be dead. Anyway just my 2 cents, let me know what you guys think, and if your working on it or it has been fixed then sorry haha

This seemed to be an appropriate topic to post under...

I have a complaint concerning the search feature.
Try searching for "BP Exhaust"
11162 matches.
I'm looking for the appropriate diameter exhaust for a BP I might be putting in.
I understand how a search engine can't use every little word combo, but I think things like engine codes, engine displacements, and common acronyms that everyone uses to answer these questions when they were first asked (the thing we're trying to find using the search feature) should be viable search terms, if possible. It would make it easier to find the details we're looking for :)
Words omitted that I particularly find annoying *.*L(displacement) - **"(wheels) - many acronyms (engine codes, part names)

CD works though :)

Just my thoughts....

ya, I had this problem too until I noticed the :
"Search for all terms or use query as entered
Search for any terms"

part.

it really cuts down on how many topics are returned by the search engine.

I don't see what you're talking about :crying:
Unless I do. I've tryed playing with the + and -, and changing those two options,
( )Search for all terms or use query as entered
( )Search for any terms

still doesn't use common acronyms (BP, 1.6, ECU)

Unfortunatley this is what happens when the same topic is posted 11,000 times.

also selecting a general area in the "Search in forums" will really narrow down your search results

this topic has been posted before, please use the search function to solve this problem

I think the problem is no one wants to take the time to read through anything anymore, its not so much that there are 100+ topics that appear its just people want answers right then. R&D is a part of life :) research takes time development thats the easy part
