Length of Trans dipstick 1.6 4cylinder automatic

Have sort of an urgent need to know if I have the right length on the transmission dipstick I just replaced.
I lost my transmission dipstick and my parts guy said I would need to hit the junkyard for another. I couldn't find an MX3 but I found the same engine...not sure about the tranny. But the stick looked just like mine. It was the only red/orange stick in any of the Mazdas that I could find. When I first stuck it in my non running car it the stick looked like it had too much fluid. But after taking it for a short drive and then leaving the engine running, I couldn't see any fluid on the stick. So now I don't know if I am out of transmission juice or my dipstick is just too short. I am hoping someone with an MX3 1.6 4 cylinder automatic could tell me how long my transmission dipstick is supposed to be.
The reason for the urgency is I have a retest on a smog check. The car on the dynomometer couldn't hold fifteen miles per hour. The test couldn't complete. So I was told by the Bureau of Automotive Repair to take if for a drive and see if I could hold 15, which it did easily. Tach was rock solid. But the guy at the auto parts store said the dyno is more stressful I should take it on a climb. The car was great up steep grades. But when I got to a ridiculously steep grade, I couldn't get the car over ten miles per hour. So I guess I am getting slippy.
If I know if my dipstick is the right length, I'll know what to do next.
