96 626 tranny possible?

Post by MazdaMan85 »

Is it possible to put a 1996 626 tranny in a 1992 mx-3 v6? The 626 is a 4 cylinder. If so what would I need from the 626?? Oh yeah both are automatics. My tranny went out today and I found this tranny from the 626 with 70,000 for 100 dollars. The guy has the whole car to besides the engine so. Please tell me good news. I searched the site but couldn't find info...

nah, sorry dude. it won't work.

you need a mx-3 auto from a v6 car.

(computers don't work together otherwise.)

sorry for the bad news.

just convert to manual.(I did)

mx-3 automatics are junk just so you know, I read somewhere that they are made from spun sugar. and I believe it. Mine blew up( lost overdrive and third gear, and all round drove like a bad of shiz.)

nah man, everyone wonders that.

most automatic mx-3's loose their tranny's.

the ecu is built into the engine ecu, so youi can't swap them.

For automatic transmissions only -
The 4 cyl and 6 cyl mx3 have the same tranny code and they are pretty much the same (see online manual page TD-019) - that means you can swap between I4 and V6 trannies - you will have to change the bellhousing and possibly speedo gears.....

Find out the tranny code for 626 -
Now if the 626 tranny is the same code as mx3 4cyl then you can atleast attempt this swap.....

I think I read somewhere that the internals a pretty much the same so maybe I could swap the internals for a semi rebuild. I just don't have very much money right now.

I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't, I could of sworn that one of the problems is that the ATX doesn't actually fit in our engine bays, it's too big, but i may be wrong.
