im finally starting my projector project
kinda got pushed back cuz my cars having problems right now
and all my time and money is going into that

anyways i came up with an easy idea to mount your GTS lenses to ur housing (no messy fibreglass or cutting ur GTS lenses)
for those of u who have tried mounting it u know wat im talking about
so if u have any laying around and want to use them as clear lenses ill show u how im doing it

i started by removing the OEM lenses (theres a guide in the FAQ)
then i made an incision in the lense with a hack saw along the edge
inserted a jigsaw and cut along the edge
I GAVE IT AN AGRESSIVE LOOK BUT U CAN JUST CUT ALONG THE EDGES IF U WANT
Image

easy there u have it
mount the pieces together and see wat it looks like

now it will be easier to use silicon along the edge of the GTS lense plus it gives it that agressive feeling

ill post pics when im done the housing project
im painting the housing black and ploishing the OEM lense layer

housings painted black
and i sanded the rough edges of the lense and polished it
not completely done i havent mounted it properly because im waiting on the projectors
gotta work out the kinks
but heres a rough pic of them to give u guys an idea :D
i was thinking of using blue LEDs behind the lense layer to give it the "eyebrow look" most projectors have now
tell me wat u guys think

What about the cut edge in the middle? How do you plan to seal that off where it doesnt leak?

I think the cut edge goes under the new intact lens if my take on what he did is right..it's just there for appearance.

the cut OEM lense layer goes underneath the GTS lense
its not purely for asthetic purposes it also helps mount the GTS lense for use as a clear lense
u cant mount them any other way without custom work

the GTS lenses r meant to be just covers btw
thats y they wont mount any other way unless u mount them over the OEM lense
but u need clear lenses for projectors thats y i cut the middle part out.. if that makes any sense

Makes sense.

So the crazy beam pattern from my hid's are from the lense's? not the chrome in the headlight?
If so, do you know anyone with pics of clear lense's on with hid's?

are you going to painting the little "eyebrow" sliver of the original headlight? I think the project looks sick so far :o

no they work together on 9004 housings... if you remove one or the other it affects the beam pattern...

I vote for cutting of the OEM lens out completely - no matter how much you sand/clean/dress it and add led blings - it is gonna get that ugly yellow color once it sees sunlight (UV radiation). If you seal it in then you will have no way of cleaning it again....

How about painting the inner side of the GTS lenses for the eyebrow look?

i dont think thats a good idea, u need a dispersion pattern on the lense and the reflective housing when using bulbs
getting rid of either will drastically reduce visibility
im going to use projectors so dont attempt this if u do not plan on adding projectors to ur setup

the piece left of the original lens would look good painted body color. like an integrated eyebrow.

andy's has them:
