Almost loses all power

I noticed in fall that when i would rev my car in nuetral after the tach climbing it drops to almost zero and it feels like the car could almost stall. I had just replaced my alternator at the time consequently the bad alternator completely killed my fairly new battery. So i figured that the problem was the new generator was having trouble keeping charge on a shot battery. i didn't get a new battery til today because i knew i wouldn't be driving it in the winter. So i bought the battery and installed it, turns out the problem is still there. Any advice on what it can be?!?

Wow, It's weird hearing this. I had this problem on my zx2 and i could never figure out what was wrong. I would be driving down the road and down shift, then when coming to a complete stop, press in the clutch and the needle goes to zero. It then cuts off. Everytime, i would have to try to give it alittle gas everytime it started to drop, just to keep it running. I never figured what the problem was. good luck.

Last time the fuel filter was changed was about 40,000 miles ago

it might be clogged or the fuel pump could be going bad. anyway the filter is cheap and it is about time to change it anyway
