Observation I made on the millenia ze at junk yards

They all have the EGR port BLOCKED.
They have kl31 heads.
Kl 01 cams.
Curved neck square runners.
wheres the egr? well its in the rear header in a cylinder looking thing that goes to the port UNDER the intake manifold.
Reason why I post this is that there are alot of importers selling this 450 dllr engine(depending wherr you live) as a eunos 800 klze.
Only way to tell is doing a compression test.
Millenia has around 180 compression - 190.
ze has over 200.
You have to look at the pistons.. i for the love of God tried to shine the light and could not see if its flat or cup.
Copression test told me all.
Dont get ripped off as I did. lol

213 on my klze

any and all engine importers will do a compression test, have them do one when you order the engine and do one when it gets to you, if the numbers dont match return it, you should be getting some type of return policy or warranty or guaranteed to crank policy when you order a motor anyway
and yes curvenecks port egr port back into the intake manifold, but if you notice in the pictures that the exhaust manifold has an egr port you shouldn't be thinking its an klze in the 1st place

my exhaust manifolds didnt have egr ports
If you pay attention to the details and get good quality pics of the engine your getting you shouldn't have a problem with people ripping you off, and besides like autozam said below like the kf there are 3 different known variants of that motor how many variants do you think there might be of the klze based off the year and model it came in.

So here we go again, another argument over what is a klze and what isn't. Just because you get an engine from an impotter that is not klze. does not mean it did not come from Japan. I will always believe that there is one true klze out there and that is the straight neck with high compression and kl31 cams. All others were just other variants of the KL and should not be mistaken for a klze but they are.

A millenia in NA has a KL. Just uses a different IM and heads from the MX-6 PGT versions. Other than that, they are the same motor.

I was looking at a 96 one.
Now on the exhaust ... it has the egr port blocked...there was some sort of cylinder looking thing bolted to the exhaust which then had the egr line running to the IM.
klze exhaust and milenia exhaust header look the same o.0 ill snap some pics when we go pick up the engine.

(Old-timer; just a new username...)
I recently have gotten more interested in the V6's, so I got a wrecked MX-3 parts car this past weekend.
Been doing tons of reading, googling, searching, etc on the different motors...
Anyways, the local yard had a Millenia I happened to see in passing just a few weeks ago, but hadn't paid any attention to (that's how new my V6 interest is).
Today I went to pull the intake manifold and one of the heads. Halfway through pulling the IM, I noticed the broken timing belt cover lying there (parts of the front end of the motor had already been taken apart); it had...... 'KLZE' written on it in yellow writing...... interesting..... made me wonder what I would find under the valve cover - couldn't be?!?
So I finally got to the point of getting the valve cover loose, pulled it and guess what: KL31 cams!!!
I got all 4 cams, the intake mani (curved neck), the tb, and one of the heads. The pistons were flat-topped..... EGR was hooked up.
Had to have been a KLZE swap..... so be on the lookout @ the yards for this possibility.
The only bummer about it was that the inside of the heads were black - definitely not the best condition. Anyways I may temporarily swap the KL31's into the K8.
Why not the other head? You'll find out soon....

don't even waste your timing putting the kl31 cams into a k8

why not??
would it help if it was turbo'd like mine??
I know that I should swap for a klde or ze, but I need my car as a daily driver for now....
so every little bit counts in my quest to go fast.

I've read that the cam journals are larger on the KL's, so the KL31's aren't a 'bolt-in' for the K8's.... (if true)
sorry to original poster for going off-topic

That isn't true.
All K-Series V6 can have their cams interchanged.

Thanks for the correction - I came across that while googling..... I was hoping it wasn't true.

so, for the record, could I just put some de cams in my k8 and pick up a bit of power with my turbo setup??

Excellent post regarding turbo cam selection.
To get the most out of your turbo you need to reduce the amount of time during which the intake and exhaust valves are both open and the exhaust pressure is greater than the boost pressure. There is no stock cam that will help significantly with this issue. Any stock K series cam will have too much overlap and the cam angle will be too great.
Having said that, the DE cam might be better for turbo than the ZE cam but the K8 cam is probably best as it has the least overlap. You would not likely be able to feel much difference between them as neither is really very good for turbo applications. More critical is that the turbo be well suited to the engine.
