sliders should be secured with just a small cotter pin on the back side of the caliper. Make sure you grease it all up real good with good synthetic grease when you put it back together.

The sliders are not held in with anything, hence slider. They do not come out easily however. I've found the best way is to take a 3/8 or 1/2 ratchet extension. Place one end against the end of the slider, and hammer it out. It will take a little bit, they slide in the rubber boot. Do make sure you use anti-seize when reassembling.

The slider pins are coated with zinc or something, so if you decide to sand them smooth you will remove that coating. This will cause them to rust up faster, unless you're maintaining them more often.

Mitmaks was probably talking about the pad slides, but they have nothing to do with the floating of the caliper. The sliders I'm talking about are within the caliper itself.

ya, thats what I thought. You should be able to remove them with a socket on a ratchet. make sure you grease all of the sliding components anyways.
